Deed Poll

Deed Poll is a legal document prepared by a lawyer that you will renounce your current name and adopt a new name from the date of the document. You will have to sign this document in the presence of a lawyer.

With the signed and sealed deed poll, you can make your application to change your name officially with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

I am not 21 years old yet, can I prepare this document?

No, when you are below 21 years of age, you are considered a minor. The deed poll in this case must be signed by your parents instead. You will still be able to change your name provided that your parents pen their signature on the document.

What are the documents required?

If you are above 21 years of age, you would need to bring a photo ID of yourself (i.e., NRIC / SAF 11B / Passport).

If the deed poll is meant for a minor, you would need to bring the photo ID of the party whose name is being changed, birth certificate of the minor, and the parent’s NRIC.
