Power of Attorney

The legal power of attorney in Singapore allows for the creation of a Power of Attorney (POA) document, granting one party (the Donor) the authority to appoint another party (the Donee) to act on their behalf in regards to specific matters outlined in the POA.

There are many documents and appointments that will require your presence. Such includes:

I am overseas, can I prepare a Power of Attorney?

Yes, you still can prepare a Legal Power of Attorney in Singapore. When signing/executing the document, you would need to sign the document in the presence of the Consulate General at a Singapore Embassy in the country of your residence. Otherwise, you are able to sign the document at a Notary Public in the country of your residence.

However, if you are intending to prepare a Power of Attorney for Purchase, it is necessary to sign/execute the document in the presence of a Consulate-General at the Singapore Embassy of the country of your residence.

Please note the following from HDB:

*With effect from 1 March 2017, if you are using CPF monies to buy a flat, the CPF Board does not accept POAs witnessed by overseas Notary Publics. The POA must be witnessed and sealed/ stamped by an official from a Singapore Overseas Mission.
