Chester Matthias Tan

Chester is a driven lawyer with a deep interest in advocacy and policy work. He graduated from the National University of Singapore, and frequently represented the institution in international arenas, receiving numerous accolades for his expertise in advocacy. He was also conferred a concurrent Master’s degree from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. Having trained with a prominent Senior Counsel disputes team in a Big Four firm, he has worked on a wide range of matters ranging from high-value commercial work in Singapore’s apex court to pro bono capital punishment cases. In the course of his practice, Chester has rendered legal counsel to numerous companies, mediated shareholder disputes, and represented large corporations in complex, multi-party negotiations. He has also authored several papers on law and policy, and has spoken at conferences on the same.

Beyond legal practice, Chester also possesses a keen business acumen and has consulted for clients across a diverse variety of industries and causes.

Some of his experience includes providing risk-mitigations strategies for start-ups, forging meaningful cross-industry partnerships, and securing six-figure investments for growing organisations.

Today, Chester is a trusted advisor to an extensive portfolio of businesses and nonprofits. He is most in his element when making a difference to society, and has served on the Boards of several registered charities and Institutions of Public Character.
